Spaulding Square HPOZ Information

Greetings from your HPOZ Board:

Spaulding Square is one of 27 HPOZ's (Historical Preservation Overlays Zones) created by a City of Los Angeles ordinance to allow buildings and structures from a similar time period to keep their original design features. By doing so, Spaulding Square attracts greater investment and community pride. Spaulding Square has become a very popular place to live and property values have increased, in part, due to our HPOZ designation and our continuing efforts to preserve and revitalize our neighborhood. The City of Los Angeles ordinance allows our neighborhood HPOZ Board the authority to oversee and review exterior modifications and additions. This includes changes to windows, doors, fencing, painting, roofing, driveways and some landscaping. The ordinance covers both front and back yards. Interior remodeling does not require HPOZ approval.

Our Board has noticed meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month (when there are projects to be reviewed or other agendized items) at 6:30pm that take place at the Will and Ariel Durant Library, 7140 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90046. Our meetings are attended by a City of Los Angeles Department of City Planning representative who serves as a liaison between the homeowner/applicant and our Board to assist with getting projects to our Board for approval.

Our present representative is Renata Dragland who can be contacted at (213) 978-1797 or renata.dragland@lacity.org.

We look forward to assisting you with your design projects. Our present Board members, who are residents of Spaulding Square, are Melanie Mayron (Vice Chairman); Glenn Williamson (Secretary); Guy Williams (Member at Large); and myself, Richard Paddor (Chairman). Our Board Architect is Dganit Shtorch. I have placed some helpful links relating to our Spaulding Square HPOZ below. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have with our Board procedures or to discuss your new projects.

Respectfully yours,

Richard Paddor
